19 May 2012 : Fashion Fiesta at DONCASTER Ladies' Evening (Sat, 19 May 2012)
As well as enjoying an evening of competitive racing, beginning at 6.10pm (gates open at 4pm), lady racegoers at Doncaster this Saturday night (19 May) can see the latest collections on the catwalk from Debenhams and Jeselle of Frenchgate Shopping Centre, along with Chique of Armthorpe. There’s also a special catwalk collection from The Aurora Centre’s ‘Care to Give’ Shop – a charity shop with a difference.  In addition, mini pamper and styling sessions (purchased on the day) are available from when the gates open and throughout the evening in the Lazarus Exhibition Hall, courtesy of hair salons Saks of Doncaster and Lux of Bawtry, along with beauty salons Elements MediSpa of Doncaster and Therapie of Best Western Premier Mount Pleasant Hotel, Doncaster.  Then, at the conclusion of racing, a Girls Aloud Tribute act will perform on stage for an hour after the final race. Football fans are not forgotten, as the UEFA Champions League Final between Chelsea and Bayern Munich will be shown on selected screens throughout the racecourse.  The fully-sponsored racing programme on Saturday evening is supported by the Crown Hotel of Bawtry, KAT Communications, the Frenchgate Shopping Centre, Robinsons of Bawtry, Elements MediSpa and Racing Welfare. The latter support The Welcome Home Barney Maiden Auction Stakes, the title of which refers to the epic 110-mile journey of Paul ‘Barney’ Bamford in his ‘Barney’s Challenge’ to raise £100,000 principally for Racing Welfare. Paralysed from the chest down after being injured in a racing yard in Spain, ‘Barney’ is travelling from Redcar to Doncaster in his specially-adapted hand cycle, covering the distance over five days.  The giant screen, situated opposite the main stands will enable racegoers to see all of the action. A shuttle bus service will be in operation from the railway station.

19 May 2012 : Irish Day at THIRSK (Sat, 19 May 2012)
The third successive Saturday meeting at Thirsk takes place this weekend (19 May) – ‘Irish Day’ at the North Yorkshire track – when racing is scheduled to begin at 1.55pm with a contest for maiden two-year-old fillies – The British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing EBF Stakes. The Irish-themed Day includes performances by Irish dancers, while musical entertainment is provided by the foot-stomping band, ‘Murphy’s Marbles’. Sprinters are in the spotlight in the pair of feature races during the afternoon, The Yorkshire Outdoors Adventure Experiences Handicap Stakes (a contest over five furlongs offering prize money of £20,200) and The Market Cross Jewellers Handicap Stakes over six furlongs with a total prize fund of £13,150. For the fifth year, The Marion Gibson Brown Memorial Stakes is held at this meeting to remember a lady who enjoyed racing at Thirsk. Saturday’s race is a Handicap contest over one mile.  The giant screen, situated opposite the stands will enable racegoers to see even more of the action and there’s entertainment for children in the Family Enclosure.

20 May 2012 : Family Sunday at RIPON (Sat, 19 May 2012)
Ripon’s annual Family Sunday Meeting takes place this weekend (20 May), when the action at Yorkshire’s ‘Garden Racecourse’ is scheduled to start at 2.10pm. The day focuses on entertainment for the family, with a wide variety of attractions for children available in the Course Enclosure (Fantasia Fun House, Kiddies Cub Karts, balloon modelling, face-painting, slides and a maze), along with two playgrounds, ensuring youngsters have a fun-packed day. As usual at Ripon, accompanied children under 16 years of age are admitted free of charge into all enclosures. The feature races on Sunday include The C.B. Hutchinson Memorial Challenge Cup, a £13,000 Handicap contest for fillies and mares over the sprint distance of six furlongs, held in memory of Charles Hutchinson who was the managing director and company secretary of the Ripon Race Company Ltd. between 1930 and 1976, while The Ripon, Yorkshire’s ‘Garden Racecourse’ Handicap Stakes over one mile also offers increased prize money of £20,000. The Middleham Trainers Association Handicap Stakes (one mile and a quarter) is a further highlight, while a trio of races are sponsored in aid of The Wooden Spoon Society (Yorkshire Region) that funds projects for disadvantaged children and young people. The races are The Mark Lister & Friends Supporting Wooden Spoon Maiden Stakes, The Seabrook Crisps Stirring Children’s Smiles Charity Selling Stakes and The Ripon RUFC In Union With Wooden Spoon Handicap Stakes. Barbara Cunningham Jewellery and Mezzo Jewellery of Skipton return to support a race for maiden three-year-olds, The gottohavediamonds.com Maiden Stakes. There will be musical entertainment during the afternoon from the bandstand, courtesy of the Wetherby & District Silver Band and racegoers will be able to follow all of the action on the course’s permanent giant screen.

21 May 2012 : More Monday action at REDCAR (Sat, 19 May 2012)
The second successive Monday afternoon meeting at Redcar (21 May) is a seven-race programme scheduled to begin at 2.10pm. The main race is the third qualifying race in this season’s John Smith’s Redcar Straight-Mile Championship Series, a popular handicap series at the seaside racecourse which culminates in a Final on Saturday, 6 October. The giant screen, situated opposite the main stands, will enable racegoers to see even more action on the track. Looking ahead to the two-day Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday Meeting on Monday and Tuesday (4 & 5 June), any pre-bookings made for Zetland Gold Cup Day on the Monday will qualify for a 50% discount for pre-booked tickets on the Tuesday. 24 May 2012 : Ladies' Day at WETHERBY (Sat, 19 May 2012)
The annual Yorkshire Post Ladies' Day at Wetherby next Thursday afternoon (24 May) combines glamour and racing when racegoers can sip champagne, listen to the jazz band and admire the latest collections of the millinery students from Leeds College of Art who will be performing fashion shows on the catwalk between races in the ‘Life & Style’ marquee – which is open to all racegoers – in the Paddock Enclosure. The seven-race programme over Jumps starts at 2.10pm and one of the main events of the afternoon is the ‘Fashion Stakes’ involving the ‘Best Dressed Lady Competition’, the judging of which will take place during racing in the winners’ enclosure. The competition is supported by James Brindley, the interior design specialists with stores in Harrogate and Wetherby. They will provide £600 worth of retail vouchers for the winning lady and there are also James Brindley vouchers to the value of £150 for the lady adjudged to be wearing the ‘Best Hat’.  In addition, the winner of the main competition will receive totepool vouchers value at £50, along with automatic entry into the Grand Final to find Yorkshire’s ‘Best-Dressed Lady Racegoer’ competition held at Doncaster in September, which is the culmination of a special competition linking all of the individual ‘Ladies Days’ staged this summer on the Yorkshire racecourses. The overall winner will receive a luxury prize for six at the renowned Best Western Premier Mount Pleasant Hotel, Doncaster. In keeping with the theme of the meeting, the opening race is a Handicap Hurdle contest for lady riders, supported by JCT600, while other highlights on the track are The ‘Hatmakers Of The North’ Handicap Chase (a £20,000 contest over three miles and one furlong)) and The H.A. Fox Jaguar Novices’ Hurdle. Both JCT600 and H.A. Fox will have vehicles on display.
